VISA Information for Laos

Visa on Arrival

Volunteers will get a standard 30-day tourist visa for your time traveling in Laos.

Requirements:

  • Passport valid for at least six months from the date you enter Laos
  • 2 passport-size photos
  • Cash payment for visa fee
Visa Fee: USD $40 (Exact Change Required)
Important: Bring $40 in fresh, clean and crisp bills with no tears or rips. Always have backup bills just in case!

Countries NOT Eligible for Visa on Arrival

Laos E-visa

Since July 9th, 2019, the Lao eVisa service has been available. You can apply online at the official website: www.laoevisa.gov.la prior to arriving in Laos.

Visa Extension

You can extend your tourist visa from a minimum of 3 days to a maximum of 30 days.

Extension Process:

  • Bring 2 passport-size photos
  • Drop passport at Immigration Office in the morning
  • Pick up the next day in the afternoon
  • Maximum 2 extensions (90 days total stay)
⚠️ Important: Be aware of your visa expiration date. Do not leave extension to the last day!

Visa Limitations

Note: Laos does not issue 2-month tourist visas or multi-entry tourist visas. Our team will help you process extensions as needed.

Overstaying Penalties

Overstaying is expensive but not a major crime.

Penalties are paid at immigration checkpoint on departure or upon visa extension.
